About the Position

We are seeking an exceptional individual to serve as the Chair of our Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. As a key leader at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, the successful candidate will be responsible for promoting the success of all student communities and addressing the needs of our diverse state, faculty, and student populations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service, with a national reputation for successful research and research leadership. They should possess knowledge of national research trends and a significant record of peer-reviewed scientific publications. Expertise in genomics or genetics, particularly in translational genomics and molecular medicine, is highly desirable.

The Chair will inherit an exceptional foundation for the transformation of the Department into one that is nationally ranked and recognized for leading cutting-edge research and education. The department includes a strong array of competitive research programs, focusing on the fundamental molecular aspects of cell biology, gene expression, cancer biology, membrane biology, glycobiology, neurobiology, muscle physiology, human genetics, chemical, and structural biology, molecular imaging, and drug development.

The successful candidate will maintain and enhance the success of the department while driving innovation in basic and translational science more broadly. They will promote a culture of institutional stewardship and transparency, including commitment to improved business operations, efficient use of space, and re-alignment of resources with evolving strategies.
