The Legal Operations Clerk is a key member of the Global Litigation and Investigations Team within the General Counsels Organization at American Express. This role is responsible for the end-to-end processing of garnishments, levies, and other similar legal orders, as well as providing administrative and litigation support as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Intake, processing, and responding to garnishments, levies, asset freezes, receiverships, restraining notices, and similar legal orders as required.
  • Providing litigation support for discovery requests.
  • Providing administrative support to the legal order processing team.
  • Ensuring that responses to third-party legal orders meet the requirements of any applicable federal and state laws.
  • Consistently demonstrating a strong regulatory understanding of the policies and procedures related to processing legal orders.
  • Escalating legal orders to the Manager & Counsel when required.
  • Performing other work-related duties as required.
  • Supporting projects as needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant in a law firm or in-house legal department role preferred.
  • Experience processing levies, garnishments, and other legal orders.
  • Sense of urgency, ability to discern critical matters, and to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Able to quickly train on, navigate, and extract information from a variety of databases and information platforms.
  • Comfortable with learning new processes and using technology tools.
  • Individuals should possess attributes of agility, teamwork, and a collaborative demeanor.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to use good judgment in decision making.
  • Able to work under pressure while requiring minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
