Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and flexible Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at Dent Neurologic Institute. As a float LPN, you will provide essential nursing support and ensure high-quality patient care across all Dent clinics on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comply with quality assurance, HIPAA, customer focus, infection control, and safety regulations.
  • Support patient care with an emphasis on patient response, maintaining liaison with physicians and practice administration to ensure efficient and effective patient care services.
  • Determine the urgency of messages and/or phone calls on an urgent/non-urgent basis.
  • Verify patient chart/EMR information, including name, DOB, address, phone, insurance, and other relevant details.
  • Assist with prescription requests, checking patient chart/EMR information for accuracy and legitimacy.
  • Make phone calls to pharmacies and other relevant parties in the order deemed most crucial.
  • Accurately document patient interactions and care in the chart/EMR.
  • Prepare e-prescriptions for provider evaluation and completion/transmittal.
  • Assist with insurance/compensation/disability/prior authorization forms.
  • Coordinate scheduling with medical secretaries and represent the Dent by displaying a respectful and caring manner with patients and their families.
  • Maintain work areas in clean and orderly condition, set up, clean, and disinfect examination rooms, and monitor medical supplies.
  • Confer with patients to obtain accurate information for records, explain procedures, and ensure completion of chart information prior to examination by providers.
  • Coordinate and participate in patient care activities, including rooming patients, vital signs, blood draws (if qualified), medication administration, mini-mental assessments, and assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Contribute to patient care through patient and family education, distributing resource literature, and community service recommendations and referrals as needed.
  • Interact calmly, respectfully, and in a friendly manner with other representatives of services at the Dent.
  • Refer patients to proper resources for Dent policies, such as billing and financial support.
  • Assist with clerical duties as needed and function as a member of the healthcare team.
  • May be required to escort and/or transport patients to the examination room and other clinic locations.
  • May be required to assist with bio-hazard cleanup, following universal precautions and using kits.
  • Maintain competence through continuing education and in-service training.
  • May assist with other clinical projects when LPN coverage demands are lower.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an LPN program from an accredited college or technical school.
  • Active NYS Practical Nurse License, free and clear of restrictions.
Working Conditions
  • Minimal physical effort while rooming patients, frequent walking.
  • Potentially prolonged periods of standing.
  • May include assistance to disabled patients in transfers to and from wheelchairs.
  • Regular fine hand manipulation.
  • Associated health risks related to patient exposure, including body fluids.
  • Sometimes bending, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, crouching, kneeling, and pushing/pulling.
  • Requires some lifting, usually not in excess of 10 pounds.
Travel
  • Frequent travel between Dent Neurologic Institute sites required.
Compensation
  • Most candidates will start within the first quartile of the pay range.
  • Rates are commensurate with experience.
