Waste Sorter

Recology is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sorter to join our team. As a Sorter, you will play a critical role in ensuring that recyclable materials are properly sorted and prepared for processing.

Under close supervision, the Sorter will sort a wide variety of reusable waste materials for recycling in accordance with established standards and procedures. This includes identifying and distinguishing recyclables from non-recyclables, sorting materials on a conveyor, and inspecting contents of bags.

• Sort mixed recyclable materials by type and from waste materials in compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
• Identify and distinguish recyclables (paper, glass, etc.) from non-recyclables (garbage, etc.).
• Empties and/or changes sorted materials containers as needed.
• Maintain a safe work area.
• Look out for, report on, and take appropriate action regarding any hazardous materials in the waste stream.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Principles and practices of job site safety, potential job hazards, and state and local regulations.
• Common procedures and general Company operations, following established methods and standing instructions.
• Basic computer programs.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
