Position OverviewThe Apprentice B Lineman role involves the application of heavy machinery operation expertise in the development and upkeep of our nation’s electrical infrastructure. You will collaborate with your team to construct, repair, and sustain overhead electrical distribution networks.

While executing job duties, team members are regularly required to communicate effectively. They frequently need to stand, walk, manipulate objects with their hands, and reach with their arms.
Team members often engage in strenuous physical tasks, which may include sitting, climbing various structures (wood, steel, etc.), balancing, and performing actions such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. They may regularly lift or move weights exceeding 50 lbs. Specific vision capabilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
During the performance of this role, team members may frequently encounter fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical components, and vibrations. They may occasionally be exposed to extreme conditions at construction sites, where noise levels can be high. Powerline construction tasks are conducted outdoors and are subject to varying weather conditions.
General Expectations:
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of hire
- Capability to operate heavy machinery utilized in powerline construction
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and effective communication
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice when necessary
- Flexibility to work extended hours in diverse locations as required
- Capacity to lift weights exceeding 50 lbs.
- Readiness to work overtime when requested
- Safely executing new construction, maintenance, or repair tasks on energized and de-energized overhead lines
- Conducting proper inspections of rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Understanding the necessity of personal protective equipment usage
- Stringing overhead wires
- Setting poles and anchors
- Assisting in the installation of transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross-arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear
- Helping to replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits
- Regularly working with energized high voltage systems, requiring skill and caution to ensure safety
- Maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools in optimal condition
- Performing rigorous physical tasks
- Understanding the proper use of company radios
- Grasping basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying techniques
- Comprehending the appropriate use and maintenance of hand tools
- Receiving and following instructions effectively
- Possessing a foundational knowledge of materials used in line work
- Identifying primary and secondary voltage on circuits
- Familiarity with induced voltage concepts
- Assisting with the installation and connection of single-phase transformers
- Being capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape procedures
- Understanding fundamental equipment setup and grounding principles
- Working at heights and/or in confined spaces
- Comprehending minimum approach distances
- Understanding excavation and shoring requirements
- Checking voltage on transformers
- Installing and removing service connections
- Climbing various structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possessing the necessary tools
- Knowing how and when to use Kellum grips
- Identifying different materials used in line work
- Working outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions
- Performing all other related tasks as required to complete job assignments
