Acts as a key resource, primary worker, and mentor for the Docketing Section while performing various tasks across the section.

Coordinates interpreters for litigants and defendants who do not speak English. Oversees the Habitual Offender, Concealed Weapon Permit, and Forfeiture Dockets. Provides support to the Legal Records Supervisor as needed.

Core Responsibilities:
Functions as a resource, mentor, and technical authority in a designated area.

Handles intricate and specialized cases that necessitate a thorough understanding of the legal guidelines and procedures pertinent to the specific assignment.

May take on a leadership role over a team of clerks engaged in similar operational tasks.
Assists the supervisor with staff scheduling, task assignments, training, and evaluating the work of unit personnel.
Regularly trains and guides less experienced team members.
Addresses more complex customer service inquiries received via phone, email, fax, mail, or in person.
Suggests process enhancements and aids in their execution.
Serves as a backup to supervisors during their absence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with the functions of the assigned business areas and/or court procedures.

Understanding of the Code of Virginia, the Virginia Supreme Court's Clerk's Manual, and laws and regulations relevant to the assigned business areas.

Knowledge of standard administrative practices, procedures, and equipment.
Ability to interpret and clarify complex rules and regulations to staff and clients.
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to inspire, train, and mentor team members.

Ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals, including judges, the general public, members of the legal and business community, and department personnel.


Minimum Qualifications:

A combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation; Plus three years of experience providing administrative support, technical assistance, customer service, or working in a court or legal setting.


Necessary Special Requirements:

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.


Preferred Qualifications:
Three or more years of experience in a court and/or legal environment.
Knowledge of the Code of Virginia and relevant regulations.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational capabilities.
Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
Experience in a collaborative team setting.
Ability to exercise discretion, initiative, creativity, and independent judgment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to lift boxes and files and push a cart weighing up to 30 pounds.
Ability to input and retrieve data from a computer.
