Job Title: Behavioral Health Specialist

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is seeking a highly skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting students with severe learning, emotional, and behavioral disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement individual, group, or systems-level interventions to promote positive academic, social/emotional, behavioral, and independent outcomes.
  • Reinforce appropriate student behavior and redirect negative behaviors, modeling these strategies for all staff.
  • Maintain and update records related to the development and implementation of student behavior strategies (SBS) or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Collect and chart behavioral data for progress monitoring and supporting IEP teams in informing instruction.
  • Provide support to teachers and classroom staff in monitoring individual student behavior and class-wide behavior management systems.
  • Implement SBS or BIPs in classrooms and other instructional settings.
  • Apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in classroom settings under the direction of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to improve student outcomes and prevent/de-escalate disruptive behaviors.
  • Conduct classroom or student observations using behavioral measurements needed for functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Assist the classroom teacher with the preparation and implementation of learning activities, providing student instruction, supervising students, and other school or classroom activities.
  • Provide appropriate crisis intervention as necessary using the least restrictive intervention technique, anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing appropriate de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns, following proper physical intervention techniques, and displaying non-reactive emotions.
  • Complete required documentation and reports, including the documentation of incidents in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of other behavior reports and daily activities as required, maintaining confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Follow all universal precautions (e.g., blood-borne pathogens, CPR, First Aid, etc.) and all emergency procedures.
  • Identify potential safety issues/hazards and report to the site safety committee and to your supervisor, participating in the safety committee as directed.
  • Attend and participate in team/clinical meetings, supervision meetings, all-staff meetings, teacher meetings, annual planning and action teams as directed.
  • Attend trainings designed to increase knowledge of current behavioral principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during school activities (e.g., field trips, bus areas, classroom areas, lunchroom, play areas, and in other assigned areas), providing supervision and support to students during transportation to and from school in district-operated or school-operated vehicles as requested.
  • Travel to/from multiple site locations during the school day to support classrooms when requested by the Program Director.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification preferred.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in the approved crisis management system.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with severe learning, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
  • Prior experience working with students in an educational program setting preferred.
  • Experience in Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) preferred.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, instruction, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
