GENERAL SUMMARY:
# The Pharmacy Department is tasked with overseeing the management and regulation of pharmaceuticals to ensure comprehensive care for patients across all age groups within the Medical Center.

The GIRMC Clinical Pharmacist (GF-grandfathered) is entrusted with delivering high-quality and prompt pharmaceutical care to the Medical Center's patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
# 1. *Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of the organization. 2.

*Maintains and utilizes patient profiles; evaluates drug therapies for effectiveness, potential interactions, adverse reactions, contraindications, allergies, sensitivities, and cost considerations; operates in a proactive and self-sufficient manner.

3.

*Ensures that dispensed medications and their combinations are based on sound therapeutic principles; if uncertainties arise regarding the appropriateness of drug therapy, the Staff Pharmacist will consult with relevant healthcare professionals during patient care.

4. Engages in Pharmacy Department and Medical Center initiatives that assess the application of pharmaceuticals in patient care. 5.

*Promotes the use of the Medical Center formulary among prescribers and other healthcare professionals; manages the formulary system by reaching out to prescribers when a non-formulary medication is requested and recommends suitable formulary alternatives.

6. *Conducts pharmacokinetic dosage calculations and assessments based on the therapeutic requirements of patients. 7. Aids in the orientation, training, and evaluation of departmental staff. 8.

*Is responsible for the timely, safe, and precise distribution of medications, frequently exercising professional judgment regarding medication procurement, storage, packaging, distribution, and application.

*Is accountable for the transcription and assessment of physician medication orders, preparation of patient-specific unit dose medications, sterile admixture solutions, extemporaneous compounding, controlled substance distribution, and outpatient medication preparation/dispensing.

*Supervises pharmacy technicians throughout their shifts to ensure the completion of assigned duties; responsible for the tasks performed by pharmacy technicians.

11. *Follows safety and security protocols to foster a safe environment. 12.

*Accurately compounds and dispenses medication orders using appropriate labeling and documentation in accordance with Pharmacy policies, state regulations, and federal laws.

*Provides precise drug information regarding therapy indications, dosages, administration routes, adverse effects, interactions, IV compatibility, and formulary recommendations to physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.

14. Participates, as needed, in Department and Medical Center initiatives that evaluate the application of pharmaceuticals in patient care. 15.

*Prioritizes workload and clinical interventions, assisting Department and Medical Center staff as necessary to ensure optimal patient care.

16. Engages in professional development through seminars, workshops, and affiliations to stay updated on the latest trends in the field. 17. Participates in meetings, committees, and departmental projects as assigned. 18. Performs other related tasks and responsibilities as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
# 1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit, including age-specific competencies related to patient growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification, and mandatory education. 2. Knowledge of hospital pharmacy drug distribution systems, including unit dose, sterile product preparation, and floor stock distribution methods. 3. Familiarity with computer hardware and software applications relevant to job functions. 4. Skill in assessing the safety, efficacy, and appropriateness of prescribed pharmaceuticals. 5. Proficiency in mathematical calculations necessary for the preparation, distribution, and monitoring of pharmaceuticals. 6. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. 7. Capability to conduct crucial conversations with favorable outcomes. 8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel and medical staff at all levels. 9. Proficient in problem-solving and exercising independent critical thinking skills. 10. Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive information. 11. Ability to prioritize work demands and operate with minimal supervision. 12. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
# Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy required. Pharmacist licensure in the State of Nebraska is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an institutional pharmacy setting is preferred. Advanced education or training is preferred.
