Position Overview

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize various welding equipment and techniques, including Arc, Hardfacing, Brazing, and Tacking.
  • Weld and hardface components on a welding positioner.
  • Employ safety equipment and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Inspect workpieces for defects and measure them to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools typical in the welding field, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Weld using hardfacing powders, rods, and other alloys as required.
  • Select and install appropriate torches, tips, filler rods, and flux based on specifications.
  • Ignite torches or activate power supplies to initiate welding processes.
  • Adjust gas flow and pressure to achieve desired flame characteristics.
  • Determine necessary equipment and welding methods, ensuring optimal techniques are employed.
  • Monitor welding processes to prevent overheating or distortion of materials.
  • Label materials with job numbers and other identifiers as needed.
  • Remove excess hardfacing using hand grinders or other tools.
  • Prepare surfaces for welding by ensuring cleanliness and absence of contaminants.
  • Position and secure workpieces using hoists, cranes, or hand tools.
  • Preheat materials prior to welding using torches or heating equipment.
  • Direct flames or electrodes to melt or build up metal as necessary.
  • Identify faulty equipment or materials and report to supervisors.
  • Clean parts using wire brushes, grinders, or degreasers.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan layout and operations.
  • Possess some repair skills, particularly in minor hardfacing of bits.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma is the minimum educational requirement.
  • Experience with hardfacing operations is advantageous.
Technical Competencies:
  • Ability to interpret engineering prints and specifications.
  • Familiarity with the proper use and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficient in using computers to access specifications and prints.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
  • Capacity to work 12-hour shifts while standing (includes breaks).
  • Preferred experience of 2+ years in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read part drawings and blueprints is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment usage and care.
