Job SummaryAs an Ophthalmology Tech at Rochester Regional Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the best possible patient care and experience. Your responsibilities will include assisting the doctor in patient care, managing patient flow, and demonstrating a working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications.
Key Responsibilities
• Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care.
• Manage patient flow, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for all patients.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications, and apply this knowledge in a practical setting.
• Obtain a thorough medical, ocular, social history, and chief complaint from patients, and use this information to inform treatment decisions.
• Perform visual acuity testing, including distance and near vision, as well as ocular motility, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, and neutralize glasses.
• Perform basic color vision screening using Ishihara or Farnsworth D-15 color vision tests, and specialized visual acuity testing using a brightness acuity tester (BAT) and a potential acuity meter (PAM).
• Use diagnostic equipment, including fundus photography, external photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Optomap Ultra-wide field, to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
• Measure patient's intraocular pressure using either the Goldman tonometer, Perkins tonometer, or Tonopen, and administer eye drops to patients in accordance with provider instructions, utilizing proper eye drop techniques and sterility.
• Clean, stock, and prepare exam rooms, maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments, and report any issues with equipment to the supervisor.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA requirements.
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
• 3-5 years of experience in a related field preferred.
Physical Requirements
This role requires medium work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The role also requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
Salary Information
The base pay range for this role is $28.00, with a minimum salary of $20.00 and a maximum salary of $28.00. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
