Job Overview

The New IEM, Llc is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing low and medium voltage power systems, acting as the primary technical interface for the equipment assigned, and supporting production during product construction and testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, troubleshoot, and commission job functions to support IEM's products and customer goals
  • Create drawing packages for custom switchgear and switchboards to applicable industry standards
  • Support production during product construction and testing by answering technical inquiries
  • Work with mechanical designers to layout and create rough front views/plan views of switchgear and switchboards
  • Select components and create detailed bills of materials for products
  • Write sequence of operation documents to define automatic system functionality
  • Engineers are expected to take a project from design conception through manufacturing and project completion
  • Support sales and project management teams in answering customer questions related to design
  • Complete short field assignments for design consultation (generally less than 3 days at a time and not to exceed 10% of total time)

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of electrical engineering principles and theories as they apply to power industry and switchgear
  • Experience in utilizing AutoCAD for electrical design
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical layout and considerations
  • Project/task management and ability to carry out a plan that moves a task to completion
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact directly with customers, sales, other technical resources, and management
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks
  • Ability to lead small teams of people to achieve a larger task
  • Willingness to work with less experienced engineers for mentoring and training
  • Technical writing skills

Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a related field
  • Previous field service experience, knowledge, and understanding is a big plus
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
  • Significant experience with Autocad drafting software
  • Industrial automation experience is a big plus
