JOB SUMMARY

Acts as a team leader to oversee various tasks assigned by the Superintendent and/or foreman. Responsible for transporting machinery to and from work sites. Operates a range of machinery including sweepers, loaders, bulldozers, track excavators, maintainers, mowers, and more.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. At least three years of experience in operating heavy machinery.
  3. Experience in underground utilities and/or road construction is preferred.
  4. Must be able to pass a drug screening and a medical examination.
  5. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Commercial Class A Driver's License.
  6. Must possess or be able to obtain a Class II Wastewater Collection License and Class 'C' Water Distribution License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Ability to understand and comply with City of Conroe and departmental policies and procedures.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency in job and personnel management.
  3. Ability to read and interpret plans and design specifications, translating them into actionable construction tasks.
  4. Fundamental knowledge of water and sewer system construction and repair techniques is essential.
  5. Willingness to attend after-hours training to renew or obtain necessary certifications/licenses.
  6. Availability for on-call duty and emergency response at any hour.
  7. Ability to lift weights of 50 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
  8. Proficient in operating heavy machinery, crew trucks, and tractor-type equipment.
  9. Capable of performing routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  10. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
  11. Willingness to work extended hours to complete assigned tasks.
  12. Proficient in using tools to accomplish tasks efficiently.
  13. Adaptability to new technologies, methods, and changing conditions.
  14. Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for extended periods.
  15. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  16. Ability to communicate using a two-way radio.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

Ear and eye protection, boots, gloves, self-contained breathing apparatus, atmospheric monitor, traffic control equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires heavy physical exertion, including the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are necessary: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

All candidates must pass a background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment. A motor vehicle record check and job-related medical examination may also be required. Safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug and alcohol testing after hire.
