Job SummaryThe Head Lifeguard - Aquatics Program Manager is a key member of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA team, responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of participants in our aquatic programs. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Supervision
- Provide lead supervision for lifeguards, ensuring they are current on certifications and performing in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
- Orient new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities, and conduct in-service training to ensure full competency in first aid, CPR, and water rescue techniques.
- Pool Operations
- Monitor pool activities, apply first aid, and perform water rescues as necessary.
- Administer pool chemical tests, and respond to results in accordance with branch procedures.
- Program Development and Management
- Collaborate with branch leadership to maintain knowledge of all pool maintenance, and provide an effective interface with members to resolve issues and provide feedback.
- Develop and implement aquatics programs that meet the needs of our members, and ensure that all programs are delivered in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Communication and Teamwork
- Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with members, colleagues, guests, volunteers, and vendors.
- Communicate effectively with members, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure that all needs are met and that our programs are delivered in a safe and supportive environment.
- Must be at least 18 years old with two (2) years' experience as a certified lifeguard.
- Must hold and maintain YMCA, Red Cross, or equivalent lifeguard certification.
- Must hold and maintain CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Oxygen for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Must successfully complete a swimming and physical skills test upon hire, and annually according to CCC YMCA parameters.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Effective communication skills necessary to inform, counsel, motivate, and support members and staff.
- Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
