Job Title: Bookkeeper (General)

Dexter Consolidated Schools is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper (General) to join our team. As a key member of our business office, you will be responsible for managing financial resources, communicating effectively with staff and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with school board policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and manage financial resources, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and community members, providing excellent customer service.
  • Comply with all school board policies, administrative procedures, and regulations, as well as district and office practices and procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable in PED's Uniform Chart of Accounts and internal funding codes.
  • Become familiar with district and New Mexico procurement law and policies.
  • Maintain district vendor files, including credit applications, W9s, tax certificates, and other relevant documents.
  • Ensure travel reimbursements are submitted in accordance with state and district regulations and policies.
  • Track and invoice costs associated with district travel.
  • Process deposits in the accounting system for assigned funds.
  • Maintain a file system for revenue and deposits.
  • Gain knowledge of entire business office duties and responsibilities.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers and visitors, directing them to the proper destination.
  • Rotate fingerprinting/background check schedule with other office personnel.
  • Rotate parcel check-in duties with other office personnel.
  • Attend professional development, online or in-person, to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Attend relevant staff and/or committee meetings.
  • Contribute to the welfare and effectiveness of the administration office by adhering to high ethical standards of performance and interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to handle high levels of stress satisfactorily and maintain a congenial attitude with other employees, parents, students, and outside agencies at all times.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of New Mexico purchasing and laws is preferred.
Working Conditions:

The work environment is quiet, with routine interruptions. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hour work may be required.

This is a non-exempt position, with salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.
