Job Summary

A medical office position is available for a highly skilled Medical Assistant to provide direct nursing care in a medical office setting under the direction of a physician. The ideal candidate will assist medical providers, maintain a clean and safe environment, and adhere to the policies and procedures of the practice.

Key Responsibilities
Adhere to and support the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Staff VHS Physicians of Michigan.
Assist in the assessment of patient needs and health plan by taking vital signs, history, medication listing, assessing visual acuity, and determining chief complaint.
Assess patients' physical and mental status, complete necessary documentation in the patient's medical record, and prepare equipment for medical treatments, exams, and procedures.
Administer prescribed oral medications, give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, and perform venipunctures and lab testing as needed.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients and visitors, including cleaning, sterilizing, and storing instruments in accordance with practice policies.
Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
Arrange for specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by the physicians, notify insurance personnel to pre-certify surgeries or tests, and answer office phones and assist with scheduling appointments.
Assist in checking out patients and assist them with referral processing and scheduling process.

Requirements
High school diploma/GED required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program or equivalent relevant work experience in lieu of education.
Medical Assistant certification preferred, with CPR/BLS certification required.
Highly prefer at least one year of experience working in a physician office.
