Job Summary: Travel Nurse Source is seeking a qualified Med/Surg RN for a contract position in Bangor, Maine.
About the Position:
- This is a 26-week contract position with a preferred start date.
- The shift is 7P-7A, 12 nights per week.
- The hospital is a Level II Trauma Center with 411 beds, including 44 private and semi-private rooms.
- The unit is a Med/Surg Telemetry unit, monitoring patients on telemetry.
- Common diagnoses include stroke, COPD, respiratory issues, flu/PNA/COVID, GI bleed, renal failure, electrolyte imbalance, altered mental status, weakness, and non-operable fractures.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care to patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
- Monitor patients on telemetry and perform EKG interpretation.
- Administer medications, including cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips.
- Perform trach care, chest tube management, and general medical surgical skills, including wound care, IVABX, drain/tube management, IV starts, and central line management.
- Obtain vital signs, shower and bathe patients, and ambulate patients.
- Progress patient functional status, including getting patients directly to the bathroom or using bedside commodes.
- Provide good communication skills and teamwork, supporting the nurse and not having a patient assignment.
- Perform phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws only.
Requirements:
- 1 year minimum experience as an RN.
- Preferred experience in a hospital setting.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to different teams.
- Charge experience highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret rhythm strips.
- Ability to perform trach care, chest tube management, and general medical surgical skills.
