Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Scientist I - Toxicology (Alcohol/Volatiles) Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our forensic science unit, you will be responsible for conducting laboratory tests, analyzing evidence, and providing expert testimony in court.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory tests and analyses of biological specimens for alcohol/volatiles and/or drug content
  • Prepare and present technical reports and expert testimony in court
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of principles, techniques, and procedures of forensic science
  • Collaborate with laboratory, legal, and law enforcement personnel to ensure accurate and timely results
  • Stay current with scientific literature and advancements in the field of toxicology
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, chemical engineering, or forensic science from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 24 semester hours of chemistry, including two semesters of General Chemistry with Laboratory and two semesters of Organic Chemistry with Laboratory
  • One semester of analytical chemistry and one semester of interpretive science
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence
  • Forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission (if required by the Code of Criminal Procedure)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in an accredited crime laboratory in the same forensic discipline
  • Documented completion of a training program in forensic science
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory information management systems
Working Conditions

The physical and environmental demands of this position include working in an office and laboratory setting, standing, walking, sitting, and using hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity. The ability to exercise visual acuity, speak, hear, and withstand the strain of continued close work is also required.
