Job Overview

Position Summary

The CNC OD/ID Grinder plays a crucial role in the setup, operation, and maintenance of grinding machinery. This position involves precision grinding applications, particularly in the aerospace sector, focusing on cylindrical grinding and specialized tool/spindle grinding. The primary equipment utilized includes the S33 Studer OD/ID grinder, Studer Favorit, along with various other related machines. This role offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for training and professional development within United Grinding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expertly operates CNC and ID/OD grinders for the production and maintenance of jigs, fixtures, gauges, and aerospace components.
  • Plans and executes complex grinding operations that require intricate setups and a high level of precision.
  • Determines appropriate feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences based on specifications from drawings, blueprints, or layouts, utilizing a range of precision measuring tools.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of perishable tools necessary for machine operation, along with charts for Q1 functions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance on other machines in the manufacturing area as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of machine shop practices, typically gained through significant on-the-job training and experience.
  • Journeyman level in machining or equivalent experience of 8 years.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possesses a high degree of mechanical aptitude and strong print reading skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with other machinery (lathe, mill, CNC setup/programming, surface grind, jig grind) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of individual contributions to product quality and safety.
  • Commitment to ethical practices in the workplace.

Working Conditions:

Located on the production floor.

Physical Demands:

  • Extended periods of standing.
  • Ability to remain stationary for 50% of the work shift, with tasks involving walking, twisting, and stooping.
