Role Summary

The Emergency Management Operational Response Specialist plays a crucial role in the coordination and communication of reported incidents from various sources, ensuring situational awareness within the emergency management framework. This position provides real-time information to field responders and the Emergency Management Duty Officer, acting as a vital resource for data collection, analysis, and reporting related to wildfire incidents. Collaboration with other departments is essential to interpret and share data concerning wildfire activities that may affect the company and its operational areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and utilize optimal tools for collecting, managing, analyzing, and presenting situational data relevant to ongoing or emerging wildfire and emergency scenarios.
  • Continuously monitor and assess situations across the service territory using analytical tools for both spatial and non-spatial data.
  • Ensure the accuracy of gathered information through thorough analysis.
  • Compile and report on current or emerging wildfire incidents and other emergency situations.
  • Rapidly triage and synthesize information related to active wildfires or emergencies.
  • Document and maintain comprehensive records of all incidents and actions taken using company tools and reporting formats.
  • Provide essential information to the Emergency Coordination Center for effective planning and assessment of wildfire and emergency situations.
  • Foster strong working relationships with System Operations, Grid, Transmission and Distribution, Real-Time Engineering, and other critical stakeholders.
  • Research and propose enhancements to visual forecasting products and analytical tools.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of processes, guidelines, tools, and training materials necessary for effective response efforts.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in emergency management, fire science, GIS, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Google Earth mapping and other geographical data visualization applications.
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data related to natural resource management.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in fire science, emergency management, or related fields.
  • Strong skills in using personal computers, including spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), and presentation software (PowerPoint) for data management and presentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work in shifts and provide 24/7 support during emergencies and disasters.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the National Incident Management System and completion of Incident Command System courses 100, 200, 300, and 700.
  • Capability to compile and deliver accurate data swiftly, often under pressure.
  • Experience in project management and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Demonstrated analytical skills to review and interpret data, identify issues, and propose solutions.
  • Understanding of the company's strategic objectives and policies, as well as relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Previous experience in the electric utility sector.
  • Experience in Emergency Operations Centers and incident management.
