Korzen Health is seeking a skilled Anesthesiologist to join our team at Verde Valley Medical Center.
About Our Team
We are a collaborative group of 5 physician anesthesiologists and 6 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), working together in a medical direction model. Our team is proud to be part of a physician-led department within a physician-led hospital system, allowing us to have a say in hospital decisions and actively contribute to hospital leadership and committees.
Types of Cases
We handle a variety of cases in 4-5 main operating rooms, 1-2 endoscopy suites, and a catheterization laboratory. Our focus is mainly on outpatient elective surgeries, including general surgery, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, breast surgery, gynecology, and urology. We also perform some regional anesthesia procedures, but do not handle pediatric cases.
Work Details
This is a shift-based role, with 15 required shifts per month for a 1.0 full-time equivalent position, considering paid leave and continuing medical education (CME). Shifts are typically 8-12 hours long, and we often finish early. You will be scheduled for around 45 hours during working weeks, but will spend less than 35 hours in-house during those weeks. You will enjoy approximately 14 weeks of vacation per year, and there are no seniority-based restrictions on vacation requests. Physicians handle scheduling, not administration.
Assignments and Call
On weekdays, three physicians work varying shifts. The shortest day shift usually ends before noon, and the longest lasts until 5 pm when the last operating room finishes. The late physician covers call from home with a 30-minute response time after the last operating room finishes. The call physician works after 5 pm about 50% of the time, often for placing labor epidurals. Call physicians do not have to stay in-house, even with running epidurals, and they get a post-call day off. We require 18 calls per quarter, averaging one call night per week and one call weekend per month.
Extra Work Opportunities
You can take extra shifts, but it is not mandatory. Extra shifts pay your hourly rate multiplied by 12 hours, plus a $500 extra shift stipend. This adds up to a substantial monthly bonus, making the workload both sustainable and financially rewarding.
