Youth Transition Specialist

The Youth Transition Specialist will lead support activities for life, academic, vocational and evidence-based skill building through the use of various curricula. The position will provide supervision to ensure the safety and appropriate social behavior of youth.
This role will closely coordinate activities with the Transition Coordinator. Key responsibilities include maintaining socially appropriate behavior of youth through sanctioned and designed de-escalation skills and disciplinary procedures. The specialist will serve as a positive role model to youth at all times through appearance, attitude, and behavior.
The specialist will also serve as support for implementing and facilitating remedial education, tutoring and GED prep. Additionally, they will serve as a mentor for skill building and employability development. Other key responsibilities include assisting with coordination and transportation of youth to obtain documents necessary for employment.
The specialist will be responsible for safely coordinating and scheduling youth in the assigned Circuit for transportation to and from services. They will transport youth to job sites for interviews, community service projects and/or any other request performed by the Transition Coordinator.
Maintaining sight and sound supervision of youth is crucial, providing a safe and secure environment for all staff and youth. Implementing the behavior management system and documentation as necessary is also an essential duty.
This role requires two years of college coursework in a social or human service field and one year full-time paid or volunteer experience working with at-risk or delinquent youth. A good understanding of group dynamics, group leadership, and crisis intervention is required. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are also essential.
In addition, this role requires physical stamina, as the specialist must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and participate in extensive walking and standing. The ability to transport clients is also necessary. Furthermore, the specialist must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and in good physical health and emotionally stable.
