Diesel Mechanic Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Lakeshore Recycling Systems. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing diagnosis and preventive maintenance services, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment
  • Work under limited supervision and select from written instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Company/OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs
  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns
  • Conduct annual safety checks on vehicles
  • Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times
  • Assist other mechanics in the completion of project work
  • Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Active applicable certificates, licenses, or registrations are a plus
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check
  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling heavy objects throughout the workday
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.)
  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements often
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future
