General Purpose of Job:

The Nurse Practitioner provides professional leadership and specialized care to high-risk infant patients, aiming to enhance their quality of life through improved nutrition and early identification of developmental delays. Responsibilities include: Travel (by air and/or ground as needed); assisting in the coordination of clinical program activities, including evaluation and consultation; referrals for developmental interventions; family communication and education; collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to assess and recommend care plans for patients; and data management for research, outcomes, and reporting purposes.

Additional responsibilities encompass conducting screening exams, interpreting findings for both patients and families, providing orientation and resource information to families; coordinating meetings; facilitating communication between the clinic and primary care physicians or specialists; and reviewing and recommending specialty services to the patient's primary care provider if necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility: No formal supervisory responsibilities, but a strong understanding of and effectiveness in administering hospital policies and procedures is essential. Makes and implements decisions that align with organizational goals. Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure.

Education and/or Experience:

Required for satisfactory performance in this role is knowledge of nursing functions, basic anatomy and physiology, and diagnostic procedures.

Skills:

Essential for successful performance in this role is the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and tact when caring for families with children who have congenital abnormalities, communicate effectively, and coordinate multiple departments efficiently. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are crucial, along with the ability to collect and manage data. The ability to demonstrate and perform both generic and unit-based/critical competencies, including specific care for age and diagnosis-appropriate patients; exhibit positive interpersonal skills; utilize time and resources cost-effectively; demonstrate flexibility; possess strong verbal and written communication skills; delegate effectively; operate basic medical equipment; read and analyze basic medical equipment; and exhibit excellent keyboarding skills with proficiency in personal computer use, including word processing and basic office equipment is required.

Formal Education and Experience:

Advanced Practice Recognition for RNs with a minimum of three (3) years of pediatric patient care experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • APRN from the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (RN) Current Texas license to practice professional nursing.
