Job SummaryDirect the daily activities of the substation engineering staff. Supervise and coordinate the utilization of engineering manpower to ensure that substation power equipment and protective relay/control systems are designed, installed, tested, maintained, and operate properly.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise the assignment of engineering personnel and set department goals for Substation Design.
- Work with internal teams, including Transmission Planning, Transmission Line Engineering, Transmission Operations, Distribution Engineering and Operations, Substation Operations, Plant Operations, Major Accounts, and Construction, to ensure the installation and maintenance of new and existing substation facilities.
- Ensure that Substation Engineering's methods and procedures are current with the latest industry safety requirements and engineering practices.
- Manage the coordination and scheduling of substation capital projects.
- Investigate electric system interruptions to ensure proper relay and control operation.
- Provide technical support for the operations of all company and customer substation work.
- Manage the major substation equipment emergency inventory.
- Develop and maintain Capital and O/M budgets for the Substation Engineering department.
- Maintain all required technical records and computer-based programs.
- Inspect work and check progress of projects, documenting details for performance evaluations.
- Ensure design and testing activities maintain uniform and safe practices.
- Solve personnel and staffing problems.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Good planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- High-level knowledge of electric transmission and power system operations and design.
- General knowledge of power plant operations, rates, tariffs, State and Federal regulations, and codes of conduct.
- Fundamental knowledge of supervisory/managerial principles.
- Ability to train and develop personnel.
- Ability to interact with customers and explain technical issues.
- Knowledge of Capital and O/M budgeting systems.
- Knowledge of typical and engineering PC applications.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations and work outside normal hours.
- Advanced degree or Professional Engineer Certification.
- Professional Engineer License.
- Certification as a Project Management Professional.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
- Specific knowledge of system configuration and operation of electric transmission and distribution facilities.
- Knowledge of safety policies/procedures, material/supply systems, and electric/material standards.
- Knowledge of union contracts and safety policies/procedures.

Salary Range: $125,000.00 - $188,600.00
