Position Overview:


The Design Engineering team, part of Sanmina's global Optical, RF, and Microelectronic Engineering group, plays a vital role in delivering customer-centric engineering solutions across Optical, RF, and Microelectronic systems.

We are seeking a skilled Optoelectronic Engineer to become a key member of our multidisciplinary development team, focusing on the design and advancement of sophisticated optical components, modules, and subsystems tailored to meet diverse market demands in Communications, Medical, Industrial, and Automotive applications.

This position encompasses both leadership and support roles throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptualization and detailed design to process development, prototyping, and qualification, culminating in manufacturing implementation.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate within a multidisciplinary development team to deliver design solutions for optoelectronic, optical, and photonic products that align with customer specifications.

Development tasks include:
- Telecom/datacom components/modules/subsystems (lasers, detectors, modulators, receivers, amplifiers, transceivers, etc.).
- Sensing/LiDAR optical components/systems.
- Medical, biomedical, and military optoelectronic components.
- Define design concepts and select essential optical and microelectronic technologies and integration strategies that meet project requirements.


- Design optical components and interconnects while considering all design aspects (packaging, integration, optical and RF/electrical, mechanical, thermal, assembly, testing, and reliability).

- Establish advanced packaging and integration solutions for compact, efficient, and high-performance optoelectronic and microelectronic products.

- Conduct optical modeling, including free space and guided wave, and perform optical system performance simulations.

- Execute optical and optomechanical tolerance analysis to evaluate practical performance capabilities, collaborating with thermal-structural engineering to assess impacts on optical performance.

- Select and characterize active and passive optical components for high-speed optoelectronic systems or subsystems.

- Define specifications/requirements for outsourced custom components and coordinate with manufacturers/suppliers.


- Work closely with optical assembly process development to establish and implement processes for active and passive optical alignment and related integration approaches on advanced optical assembly equipment.

- Within Sanmina's Technology Development programs, define and establish next-generation design and assembly capabilities to meet future customer requirements.


- Support prototype builds and engineering product verification through hands-on engagement with the process engineering team to ensure compliance with requirements.

- Assist in product transition into manufacturing and provide necessary support to production team members.

- Generate product documentation, including design specifications and custom part drawings/requirements.


- Facilitate new business development by engaging with prospective customers to understand their needs and generate suitable proposals and quotations.


Qualifications:
- A graduate degree in engineering or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

- Proven expertise in the design and development of optical products, from concept to volume manufacturing.

- Familiarity with a wide range of optical and microelectronic technologies, materials, components, assembly, and testing processes.

- Experience with the latest optical design and modeling tools and techniques.


- A strong multidisciplinary background encompassing microelectronics, packaging and assembly, process development, electrical design and simulation, mechanical and thermal design and simulation is advantageous.

- Experience in end-to-end product development, including product manufacturing implementation, is also beneficial.

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary product development team.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
