We are seeking a highly skilled Karate Instructor to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Seattle. As a Karate Instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality Karate classes and programs to our members, promoting healthy living and wellness in our community.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and instruct Karate classes or programs in a specialty area, observing and discussing individual progress with participants.
- Develop positive relationships with participants and facilitate relationship building among participants and members, providing motivational support and guidance.
- Increase participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors, encouraging member and parent involvement and identifying potential volunteers.
- Attend staff meetings and approved trainings as required, setting up and taking down class equipment and reporting equipment problems.
- Ensure safe and effective classes, responding to and reporting accidents and incidents, and conveying basic knowledge of all Y Total Health/Activate America programs.
- Track, monitor, evaluate, and transition assigned Total Health participants, providing motivational support and counseling, and accurately maintaining related records.
- Current state-approved first aid certification.
- Current state-approved CPR certification.
- High school education or equivalent preferred, with other applicable education, training, and experience considered.
- Two or more years of experience teaching or practicing in a specialized area, with Total Service/Total Health Training preferred.
- Ability to lead a class or provide individual service, respond to safety and emergency situations, motivate and educate members, and set up, move, and store equipment.
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, with ability to speak any language in addition to English helpful.
- Martial Arts/Karate: Black belt, trainer, and member of the Washington Karate Association.
