Job Summary

We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Park Rangers and Seasonal Park Maintenance Workers. As a Park Ranger, you will serve as the primary visitor contact, interacting with the public to assist them in the safe and orderly enjoyment of the park. You will also assist with operational, maintenance, and protective duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general ticket booth services, including ringing up and accepting parking fees, selling season passes, and greeting park visitors.
  • Perform work related to the maintenance and operation of DEEP managed lands and facilities, including litter pickup, cleaning, mowing, raking, and painting.
  • Supervise and work with an assigned crew of Seasonal Maintainers in activities involving the operation and maintenance of DEEP programs and facilities.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a recreational facility under the supervision of a Park and Recreation Supervisor and an EP Maintainer 3.
  • Train, supervise, and schedule Seasonal Maintainers; evaluate work performance; assist in job planning and scheduling, and in preparation of materials lists.
  • Operate machinery and power equipment, such as lawn mowers, chain saws, brush cutters, tractors, medium-duty vehicles, and power tools.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment; may perform highly-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, or other skilled trades.
  • May drive vehicles rated at 3/4 Ton Gross Vehicle Weight or less.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Experience in retail and/or customer service (for Ticket Booth Attendants).
  • Experience in custodial work, landscaping, or a related skilled trade (for Maintainers and Crew Leaders).
  • Experience with maintenance of a recreational facility and/or experience in a related skilled trade (for Park Maintenance Supervisors).
  • Experience with outdoor recreation facility operations (for Park Rangers).
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in outdoor recreation management (for Park Ranger Supervisors).

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
