Job Responsibilities

Conducts comprehensive postmortem evaluations and medicolegal autopsies for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). Accurately documents findings and provides expert consultation to judicial officials involved in death investigations and legal matters; may be required to testify in court; additionally, contributes to the education and training of death investigators, healthcare professionals, and the community. May oversee the operations and personnel of an OCME District Office.

Essential Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited medical institution, with specialized training in anatomic and forensic pathology; board certification in forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology is required within two years of employment.

• Completion of an accredited forensic pathology training program, including a minimum of one year of forensic experience.

• Proficient in written and verbal communication in English.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with other professionals and community representatives.

• Competence in teaching and supervising others.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience in medicolegal death investigations is preferred.

• Previous experience testifying in court is advantageous.

• Advanced training in areas such as cardiovascular pathology, neuropathology, pediatric pathology, law, or public health is desirable.

• Anticipation of a university appointment with rank based on qualifications.
