About Us:

At Southwest Research Institute, we specialize in comprehensive testing across a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars to heavy-duty trucks and off-road machinery. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct lubricant assessments for various clients utilizing different testing methodologies in accordance with ASTM standards.
  • Perform fuel evaluations for clients using various test types for both on-road and dynamometer assessments.
  • Ensure safe execution of fuel and lubricant testing by adhering to established safety protocols and Environmental Management and Quality Systems.


Daily Tasks:
  • Operate engine testing facilities through computer systems for data collection to evaluate lubricant performance, fuel efficiency, or engine longevity.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and project engineers regarding the status of ongoing tests.
  • Assemble and disassemble gasoline and diesel engines as outlined in testing protocols.
  • Handle auxiliary pumps and motors to support operational equipment.
  • Prepare and label fuel and lubricant samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Utilize scanners for various vehicle makes and models; maintain testing logs, time records, and project documentation; perform tire maintenance; modify fuel systems for specific testing needs; disassemble vehicle components as necessary for evaluations.
  • Remove and install cylinder heads, transmissions, axles, and fuel tanks; inspect utility trailers; conduct automotive fluid changes; test fuel injectors; perform comprehensive maintenance on a variety of vehicles; assist with departmental project activities as needed.
  • Input recorded data into a digital database; carry out routine engine maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain a tidy work environment and comply with all safety regulations and standards when working with potentially hazardous materials during tests.


Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred qualifications include Automotive Mechanic or Certified Master Mechanic credentials, an Associate's degree, or ASE certification, along with a CDL License.
  • Willingness to work shifts is necessary.
  • A minimum of 5 years of vocational or commercial automotive or diesel mechanical training or related mechanical experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Excel and Word, is essential.
  • Overtime may be necessary based on project demands; candidates should be prepared to work with solvents, gasoline, diesel, and coolants.
  • A valid and clear driver's license is mandatory.
