Job Summary

The Sacramento County CA is seeking a highly skilled Sanitation District Mechanic III to join our team. As a key member of our wastewater treatment team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of mechanical duties in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems involved in wastewater treatment and conveyance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently perform a variety of skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work with minimal instruction or guidance.
  • Operate and maintain complex mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment, including lift and pump stations.
  • Work as a lead worker to provide training and work direction to lower-level staff.
  • Read and interpret maps, diagrams, instruction manuals, plans, and blueprints.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records.
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade 1 certificate, or higher.
  • Three years of full-time paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Sanitation District Mechanic Level I/II, or four years of full-time paid experience in the maintenance, construction, and repair of mechanical and electrical components of equipment in wastewater treatment plants, potable water systems, lift stations, storm drain pumping stations, or other mechanical facilities with similar systems and equipment.
  • Ability to work in enclosed areas where the temperature may exceed 100 degrees F or reach lows below 20 degrees F.
  • Ability to work in trenches up to 23 feet, or more, in depth.
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain and outside in all types of weather conditions.
Working Conditions
  • Work in areas with unsteady footing.
  • Enter, exit, and work in enclosed and confined spaces, such as 24 and 36-inch maintenance access holes.
  • Wear respiratory protection.
  • Demonstrate color vision sufficient to distinguish the colors on a computer screen that indicate equipment status and conditions.
Physical Requirements
  • Perform strenuous manual labor.
  • Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Lift heavy equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance; lift heavier items with assistance.
  • Work shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and standby.
Probationary Period

The probationary period for this classification is twelve (12) months.
