Job Summary:
The Pediatric Float Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering nursing care within medical practices tailored for children with unique health needs and complexities.
This role involves providing clinical support and oversight for various medical services, which include patient and family education, administering vaccinations, conducting point-of-care testing, triaging patients, and performing office evaluations.
The nurse will work collaboratively with both internal and external healthcare providers to ensure a seamless continuum of care, adhering to a patient and family-centered, team-oriented approach that aligns with the mission and values of Children's Specialized Hospital.
The position requires flexibility to cover Ambulatory Care Clinic practices as directed by supervisory staff based on operational needs.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program
- Valid RN License in New Jersey
- AHA BLS Provider Certification
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience with advanced medical technology and care for medically complex pediatric patients
Work Schedule:
- Full Time
- 40 hours per week
- Flexibility to provide coverage across various practices as assigned
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel within designated areas to provide nursing coverage during planned and unplanned absences, training sessions, and extended illnesses.
- Offer clinical guidance to medical assistants and ensure competency as required.
- Demonstrate expertise in caring for children with special needs, including those reliant on medical technology.
- Manage patient scheduling and perform necessary clerical tasks.
- Oversee competency and quality assurance for office-based point-of-care testing.
- Regularly assess clinical performance and identify learning needs through self-evaluation.
- Maintain professionalism and accountability in all actions related to nursing practice.
- Keep up-to-date with licensure and educational requirements as mandated by external and departmental standards.
- Participate in nursing-related committees within the hospital.
- Support operational functions as needed, ensuring adequate clinical staff coverage.
- Utilize the nursing process effectively to address patient and family healthcare needs in both primary and specialty care settings.
- Document nursing care in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.
- Implement tailored patient and family education within specified timeframes as per practice guidelines.
- Provide education on diagnoses, symptoms, medication management, and behavioral modifications as directed by healthcare providers.
- Recognize the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration in patient care.
- Promote continuity of nursing care and interdisciplinary interventions.
- Display competency in assessing and interpreting patient behavior based on cognitive and biophysical understanding.
- Acknowledge the developmental needs of patients when planning and delivering services.
- Manage vaccination processes, including administration, ordering, education, and reporting in compliance with standards.
- Respect patient and family rights in a culturally sensitive care environment.
- Conduct effective clinical triage for patients via phone and in-person interactions.
- Handle medication refills and authorizations as necessary.
