This role is situated within the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service of the Veterans Health Administration.
The individual in this position will independently execute a range of laboratory tests and assessments across various sectors of the clinical laboratory.
EligibilityThis opportunity is available to the general public, including U.S. Citizens and Nationals.
Key ResponsibilitiesNote: This is not a remote position; candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the workplace.
- Registering patient samples into the laboratory information management system.
- Guiding patients on how to collect urine and stool specimens.
- Conducting blood specimen collections using venipuncture or fingerstick methods.
- Acting as a versatile team member within the Pathology & Laboratory Service, performing analytical testing as required in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, and Microbiology.
- Facilitating communication between the laboratory and patient care areas regarding test requests, specimen integrity, and order management.
- Ordering and maintaining necessary supplies for the phlebotomy section of the laboratory.
- Supporting laboratory operations through additional tasks such as cleaning glassware and restocking supplies.
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Conditions of EmploymentApplicants must be U.S. Citizens. Those selected for this role may be required to undergo drug screening as part of the hiring process.
QualificationsMinimum requirements include one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service, performing technical laboratory support tasks such as conducting laboratory tests and preparing findings, or possessing one full year of graduate education directly related to this position.
