Job Overview

The Surgical Technologist position at MUSC is a key member of the surgical team, responsible for ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available to facilitate successful procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing operating rooms for surgeries by sterilizing equipment and instruments.
  • Stocking adequate supplies for surgery, including preparing patients for procedures.
  • Providing support during surgery by passing instruments and other supplies to surgeons and anesthesiologists.
  • Tracking surgical supplies and staying up-to-date on surgical technology, medical terminology, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of surgical technology and surgical procedure.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to stay current with changes in the field.
  • Possess passion for patient care and safety.

Work Requirements

This is a PRN as-needed position, requiring flexibility and availability to work at least 1 full shift bi-weekly, as needed according to departmental demands.

Additional hours may be required to accomplish work objectives, and work hours may vary depending on the needs of the unit.

Education and Certifications

  • Graduate of a Technical College or equivalent with accredited Surgical Technologist curricula.
  • Surgical Technologist Certification required after 2008.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with American Heart Association (AHA).
