Job Description

Position Overview

The Middle School Social Studies Teacher will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing instructional programs in a middle school learning environment that fosters the intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth of students.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Planning and Instruction
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency with subject matter
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
    • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
    • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
    • Understand and use assessment to promote student learning
  • Classroom Environment
    • Create an environment that promotes respect, rapport, and learning
    • Establish effective relationships with students
    • Communicate clear and consistent expectations for learning, behavior, and achievement
    • Monitor and manage student behavior effectively

    • Communicate effectively with families, students, and colleagues

Qualifications

  • Required: B.A/ B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field teaching
  • Minnesota State certification in teaching appropriate subject areas (5-8 Social Studies or Communication Arts/Literature)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Highly organized and punctual
  • Customer-focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with using technology in teaching and learning
  • Skill in using positive, constructive disciplinary approaches
  • Familiarity with current teaching/learning theories

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in historically educationally underserved communities and communities of color
