Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Chaplain to provide spiritual guidance and support to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) employees, their families, and victims of crime. As a Chaplain, you will work under the Victim and Employee Support Services (VESS) office, providing emotional support, crisis intervention, and spiritual care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to critical incidents and disaster scenes, providing emotional support and spiritual care to those affected.
  • Visit sick or injured officers, departmental personnel, and family members in their homes and hospitals.
  • Assist in making death notifications and providing support to families during difficult times.
  • Provide assistance to crime victims upon request, offering emotional support and connecting them with resources.
  • Serve as a liaison with clergy and other community resources, building relationships and providing support to those in need.
  • Offer invocations at special Department of Public Safety events, promoting a sense of community and respect.
Requirements
  • Three or more years of experience in pastoral or parish/congregational ministry, with congregational endorsement or recommendation within the individual's respective faith tradition.
  • Previous law enforcement experience as a peace officer is also required.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, prioritizing tasks and making sound judgments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers, providing direct service to victims of crime.
Working Conditions

The Chaplain will work in a variety of settings, including offices, outdoors, and vehicles. The physical demands of the job include standing, walking, sitting, and transferring weights of up to 10 pounds. Moderate to extensive driving is required.
