Job Title: Occupational Therapist

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team at SAAD ENTERPRISES in Mobile County. This is a part-time position with competitive benefits.

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist will provide relevant and meaningful occupational services to patients in their homes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the meaning of illness in the home, caring for geriatric and disabled patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate patient care plans with referring physicians and other healthcare personnel.
  • Evaluate patient's occupational therapy needs and plan a patient program.
  • Administer, schedule, and supervise direct patient care utilizing appropriate occupational therapy techniques.
  • Instruct patients and their families in home programs.
  • Maintain records pertinent to patient treatment, including daily progress notes, weekly summaries, monthly physician updates, and discharge summaries.
  • Direct patients in the use of wheelchairs and prosthetic and orthopedic devices.
  • Prepare and write home exercise programs and instruct patients and their families in their use.
  • Communicate with physicians regarding changes or modifications in treatment plans or patient status.
  • Participate in rehabilitation team conferences, conferences with physicians, and members of the rehabilitation team as necessary regarding problems, progress, and needs of patients.
Requirements:
  • One to two years of experience in the field of Occupational Therapy, preferably in a home health care setting.
  • Graduate of an accredited program of Occupational Therapy or completion of the A.O.T.A. Career Mobility Program.
  • Ability to work in an office setting and home environment, drive a car, and function in a variety of settings.
  • Strong understanding of the meaning of illness in the home, caring for geriatric and disabled patients.
Working Conditions:

Frequent travel to rural areas where patients live, poor to good conditions in patients' homes. Office is well ventilated, lighted, and temperature regulated. Hazards or risks include minimal in office, but may include handling potential problems in patients' homes related to possible problems of alcohol and drug abuse, child and older adult neglect or abuse, marital problems, and patients' acute illness or possible death.

Must be able to work in restricted areas performing repetitive work for extended periods of time, concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, and handle potential problems in patients' homes.
