Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team at the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. As a key member of our Transportation Department, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of vehicles to ensure the safety and efficiency of our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on all District vehicles, including tire checks, oil changes, and fluid level inspections.
  • Repair and diagnose mechanical issues with District vehicles, using diagnostic equipment and tools as needed.
  • Drive a school bus route as necessary to support our transportation services.
  • Respond to calls for assistance outside the Transportation Facility, providing timely and effective support to our students and staff.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, and bending.
  • Keep the shop, equipment, and tools in a safe operating condition, reporting any unsafe conditions to management.
  • Work irregular hours as needed, including evenings and weekends, to support our transportation services.
  • Assist other mechanics with repairs, work with drivers to maximize the use of District vehicles, and respond positively to front office direction.
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
Requirements
  • Possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License with a P and an S endorsement, or be able to obtain one within three months.
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug testing, a driver's license check, and a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment and annually renewed State required physical examination.
  • Have a minimum of two years experience as a mechanic, preferably with ASE Certification in any S field.
  • Physical ability to function effectively and safely in a shop environment.
Working Conditions

This position requires occasional prolonged and irregular hours, work inside and outside with moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, exposure to vehicle fumes, and exposure to vehicles/machinery moving parts.
