Shipfitter Specialist

At Shipyard Staffing LLC, we are seeking a highly skilled Shipfitter Specialist to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. As a key member of our ship repair and modernization team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient completion of steel and aluminum structural work on marine vessels.

The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience as a Shipfitter Journeyperson and possess a strong mechanical aptitude, with excellent comprehension skills and ability to follow directions. You will be responsible for performing tasks with minimal supervision, reading blueprints, measurements, and interpreting job specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing steel and aluminum structural work in all stages of repair and modernization of marine vessels
• Reading blueprints, measurements, and interpreting job specifications and drawings
• Fabricating templates, squaring plates, scribing in structures, and installing perpendiculars on ships in accordance with drawings, specifications, or sketches
• Using oxy-acetylene torches for cutting and washing, as well as hand and power tools safely
• Welding experience in SMAW (S-11A) (fillet) FCAW (S-1) (fillet) GMAW (S-25) (fillet)
• Understanding proper use and operation of structural shop fabrication equipment, including shears, punches, and brakes
