Job Overview:

The role involves active participation in the development, oversight, and guidance of patients enrolled in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs. This position requires collaboration with fellow healthcare professionals, interpretation of telemetry data, and the establishment of personalized exercise regimens. Ensuring patient safety during the use of exercise apparatus is paramount. The specialist will manage comprehensive care for patients engaged in Supervised Exercise Training for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and assist in vital measurements for all patients, including those with cardiac and pulmonary conditions. The role also encompasses emergency management assistance and contributing to data collection on patient outcomes, alongside involvement in community education initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in exercise physiology and cardiac EKG rhythms.
  • Provide expert advice to the Program Director and clinical staff to develop a safe and effective rehabilitation program. Adjust exercise protocols based on clinical observations and telemetry data.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs at rest, during exercise, and post-exercise, including blood pressure and heart rate/rhythm, while being attentive to patient symptoms.
  • Accountable for patient outcomes, including data entry, reporting, and analysis, utilizing this information for departmental performance enhancement projects.
  • Evaluate and document patients' EKG readings during rest and exercise, assess functional exercise capacity, and monitor blood pressure responses and arrhythmias.
  • Oversee all aspects of the PAD program, including case management responsibilities.
  • Assist in case management and contribute to the tailored treatment plans for patients in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
  • Recognize when to initiate established protocols for physician orders or emergency medical assistance for patients in distress. Collaborate with physicians for further evaluation and testing.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for exercise equipment maintenance with Biomedical Engineering.
  • Provide recommendations for repairs, replacements, and procurement of additional equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with equipment manuals and TJC requirements.
Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of one year in a clinical or fitness environment.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or Exercise Science from an accredited institution. A Master’s degree is preferred, particularly in a cardiac care setting.

Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required. Completion of an EKG course is necessary. ACSM certification is preferred. Specialized training in cardiovascular disease or experience in a cardiac unit is advantageous.
