Human Resource Assistant

The Human Resource Assistant will provide administrative support to the HR department, maintaining accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation. This role will also assist with employee relations, training, and compliance, as well as provide clerical support to the HR team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation
• Assist with employee relations, training, and compliance
• Provide clerical support to the HR team
• Process required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, and other related employment matters
• Act as liaison between employees and benefits/payroll
• Conduct new hire orientation
• Run human resource reports such as attendance, new hire, and turnover reports
• Assist with planning and execution of special events/HR related training
• Assist HR Manager II with special projects and research
• Responsible for tracking FMLA, Work Comp, work visas, etc.
• Point of contact and assists union employees during benefit open enrollment and new hire benefit enrollment
• Conduct weekly safety observations and have open communication with employees to keep them highly engaged
Requirements:
• Associates degree in related field required
• Prior related experience preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
• Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
• Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others
• Must possess the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn ADP, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications
• Excellent in problem-solving
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
• High level of integrity and adhere to the highest ethical standards
• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This role is based at the Totowa, NJ plant and requires the ability to work in a manufacturing environment with loud machinery and exposure to high temperatures, dust, and allergens. The role also requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as the ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times. The plant runs 24x5, and the typical work hours for this position are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, but must be flexible to come in early or late as needed and work overtime hours if directed.
