Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Position with UC San Diego Health

The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner role is a vital part of the care team, overseeing patient management within the UC San Diego Health market area.
This position requires collaboration with physician teams to provide comprehensive care for patients with general dermatology needs, contributing to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and leadership.
The successful candidate will possess a strong educational background, including an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP) and California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Furthermore, they must hold a California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, Furnishing License Certification, and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) board certification.
A minimum of two years' experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner in Dermatology is required, along with expertise in medical dermatology, biopsies, intralesional steroid injection, phototherapy, excisions, and management of other dermatology conditions.
The ideal candidate will have a solid theoretical foundation in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency, and critical care medicine, as well as management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, pharmacology, counseling techniques, and interpersonal dynamics.
An additional requirement includes proficiency in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently retrieve accurate information and perform initial history, physical examination, identify major medical problems, formulate appropriate plans of action.
Effective communication and documentation skills are also essential, allowing the candidate to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes.
Prior knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in clinic is necessary, as is understanding the purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedures accurately, infection control, and accurate documentation of medical charts.
The position demands exceptional ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare personnel, skill in providing clear written, verbal, and telephone communication with a wide variety of people, assess daily patient status and progress, report this effectively to physicians and medical care personnel, maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians-in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the healthcare team, and instruct housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.
Knowledge of applicable research protocols and the ability to manage all aspects of each protocol is also required, as well as understanding of medical ethics and law practices pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.
Key responsibilities include working various hours and locations based on business needs, obtaining UCSD Medical Staff privileges, maintaining during employment, meeting University of California NPIII employees requirements, adapting to on-call, overnight, evening, and weekend shifts, and occasional travel to different locations.
