Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the efforts of the maintenance team and any associated satellite facilities.
  • Directly oversee all personnel within the maintenance department by planning and managing their tasks.
  • Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment as necessary and ensure follow-up on all maintenance activities.
  • Implement and uphold a preventative maintenance strategy to ensure all equipment remains in safe and operational condition, including planning and scheduling maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain all required inspection, maintenance, and safety documentation as mandated by regulatory agencies and company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with GFL Environmental's safety standards and regulations within the maintenance operations.
  • Guarantee the efficient operation of the Safety Lane.
  • Collaborate with Operations Management to schedule equipment for inspections and repairs.
  • Organize and lead safety meetings, documenting participants and topics discussed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Manage inventory effectively, authorizing purchases of supplies and parts within set financial limits.
  • Oversee the upkeep and appearance of the maintenance facility and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of service vehicles and the maintenance shop.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, order fuel as necessary, and compile monthly fuel usage reports for management.
  • Track expenses across various product lines.
  • Review work orders and vehicle condition reports daily.
  • Conduct inventory queries and enter necessary adjustments.
  • Submit required reports to the Area Controller on a monthly basis.
  • Recruit, interview, and train maintenance personnel.
  • Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Evaluate maintenance staff performance and administer discipline when necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Completion of DOT certification for air brake inspection and annual vehicle inspections is required.
  • A valid Certified Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a maintenance or workshop environment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, TMW, I-Pak, and JDEdwards.
  • Familiarity with G/L codes for parts and labor allocation.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, instructions, and procedure manuals, and communicate effectively.
  • Competence in solving mathematical problems related to discounts and percentages.
  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of budget management processes.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Capability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
  • Visual acuity is essential.

Requirements:

This includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, particularly when maneuvering vehicles in confined and high-traffic areas.



  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds manually.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate noise levels are typical.
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises, humidity, extreme temperatures, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, toxic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • May occasionally work in high or precarious locations.
