Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Drilling Assistant to join our team at American Engineering Testing Inc. This role will assist the Crew Lead on a drill rig, performing a variety of tasks including operating the drill rig, judging access and utility clearance needs, and maintaining the drill rig and auxiliary vehicle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Crew Lead in setting up equipment and operating the drill rig in a safe manner.
  • Conduct soil and rock sampling, and assist in the preparation of field logs.
  • Clear underground utilities and improvements, and assist in surveying test boring locations and elevations.
  • Install monitoring wells and piezometers, and properly seal boreholes per regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the drill rig and auxiliary vehicle, and ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and restored.
Requirements
  • Mechanical ability and working knowledge of well codes.
  • Class D Driver's License, with a preference for Class A or B.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
Work Environment

This role will primarily operate in the outdoors, in all seasons and varying conditions. The successful candidate will be able to work in a physically demanding environment, and will be required to wear personal protective equipment as necessary.

Qualifications and Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a degree in a related field (such as geology or engineering) being an asset. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of drilling and sampling techniques, and will be able to work effectively in a team environment.
