Unit Details:
Department: Medical Surgical | Tele/MedSurg Float
*Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NALS*

- Bed Capacity: 25 (typical patient census ranges from 2-10).
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Common Diagnoses: Respiratory issues, sepsis, post-operative care, diagnostic catheterization, congestive heart failure exacerbations, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, diabetes management, and more.
- Experience: Flexibility in working both Emergency Department and Medical Surgical settings is essential. Team-oriented candidates who are eager to learn are preferred.
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate various medications, including Heparin, Dopamine, Levophed, antibiotics, chemotherapy, and insulin drips. Training will be provided for those unfamiliar with specific drips.
- Monitoring: No telemetry technicians are available; nurses will interpret and document monitoring strips.
- Charge Nurse Role: Charge nurse will maintain a light patient assignment.
- Nurse Aide Support: One CNA is available on the MedSurg unit, assisting in various capacities.
- Equipment: Includes nasal cannula and stable BiPAP; no ventilators are present.
- Scheduling: 12-hour shifts with a dedicated scheduler who aims to accommodate requests. Schedules are typically released four weeks in advance.
- Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Yes, based on unit needs.
- Floating Requirements: Yes, staff may be required to work in both Medical Surgical and Emergency Department settings.
- Uniforms: Hospital-grade uniforms are required.
- Orientation: A comprehensive orientation program is provided, including one day for paperwork and computer training, followed by two days on the floor.
