- POSITION PURPOSE: This role is a nonexempt position responsible for a variety of tasks that will be assigned based on the needs of the practice. The individual will alternate between front desk responsibilities and clinical duties as required by daily operations.
As a front desk coordinator, your main tasks will include managing reception duties, scheduling appointments, facilitating patient check-ins and check-outs, handling telephone inquiries, and providing other patient-related services.
As a medical assistant, your primary responsibilities will involve supporting physicians in patient care and managing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
- Key Functions:
- Possess adaptable knowledge and communication skills to effectively perform assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate proficient computer skills and the ability to execute functions based on departmental needs.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
1. Manage scheduling and insurance verification, including processing preauthorizations and precertifications.
2. Exhibit proficiency in telephone communication and customer service skills.
Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Assist physicians during patient visits, ensuring effective communication with physicians, patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant diploma or certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two years in a healthcare setting, with preference for experience in a relevant practice.
- Other Skills: Familiarity with EMR systems (ECW experience preferred but not mandatory).
- Understanding of basic medical terminology and organizational services.
- Adeptness in directing callers accurately based on individual responsibilities.
- Awareness of legal and ethical considerations regarding patient information.
- Familiarity with organizational policies and procedures.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interact with administration, physicians, and other personnel daily.
- Proficiency in computer usage.
- Ability to operate a multi-line phone system, including call transfers and paging.
- Capability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism at all times.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs and effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Commitment to maintaining clinical knowledge as a medical assistant.
- Ability to gather appropriate information to accurately direct patients.
- Capability to calm or defuse concerns from irate callers and patients by collaboratively identifying issues and developing solutions.
- Ability to multitask and organize work for efficient completion.
- Punctuality and availability for daily assigned responsibilities.
- Capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks effectively.
- Demonstrate compassion and care in interactions with others.
