Are you skilled in operating heavy machinery? In this position, you will collaborate with a team to maintain the landscaping of public roadways within the Sarasota County area. Your contributions will help enhance the beauty of our community.- Key Responsibilities:
- Operate various machinery including: Front end loader (1.5 cubic yards or larger), Motor Grader, and Backhoe (1 cubic yard or larger).
- Transport equipment such as: 23" long arm mower, Grapple truck, Gradall Hydraulic Excavator, and other large vehicles including trucks and tractors.
- Ensure roadways and rights-of-way are clear and safe for public use.
- Tasks include: removing debris and hazards from roadways, and trimming trees.
- Utilize tools such as chainsaws, weed eaters, pole saws, and other manual implements related to right-of-way upkeep.
- Perform maintenance tasks including roadway drop-off, shoulder and washout repair, and grading of unpaved roadways/rights-of-way.
- Operate debris removal equipment to clear essential roadways during emergencies and natural disasters.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. * On-Call Required
Candidate ProfileMinimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in operating and performing routine maintenance on heavy machinery.
- Possession of a State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" with Tanker "N" endorsement at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of the effective operation of complex construction machinery and the associated hazards.
- Knowledge of traffic and highway safety regulations as they pertain to transporting heavy equipment.
Physical Requirements: Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Substance Screening: This position requires passing a pre-employment substance screening. Failure to pass will result in disqualification from employment for five (5) years.
Additional InformationStarting Salary: $21.07 (Step 1)
Potential for higher pay based on years of experience.
