We are seeking a highly skilled Ruby on Rails Backend Engineer to join our team at Perchwell. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a vital role in designing and implementing complex software systems that drive business growth.

With 6+ years of experience collaborating on software development projects and 4+ years of expertise with Ruby on Rails, we are looking for someone who can take ownership of the product development lifecycle, from technical design to launch. Your strong understanding of efficient data models, query optimization, and index tuning will be essential in scaling our platform to meet future growth plans.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner across functions to design, build, and implement new systems and features that improve our products and serve our customers. We believe in working as a team in-person, and you will work out of our New York City HQ in Soho Manhattan at least 3 days/week.

Job Responsibilities

As a Ruby on Rails Backend Engineer, your job responsibilities will include developing new client-facing features, driving large, complex projects autonomously, determining plans-of-attack on large projects, tackling complex architecture challenges, and mature our existing tech platform to prepare it to scale with our future growth plans.

You will also have the opportunity to help define a healthy and effective development culture that balances the need to move quickly with planning for the future. Additionally, you will be expected to take ownership over QA and release cycles of your work as part of a you-build-it-you-run-it practice.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a BS or MS in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent experience. You must also have 6+ years of experience collaborating on software development projects and 4+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails.

A proven track record of designing efficient data models and diagnosing performance bottlenecks in PostgreSQL, including query optimization, index tuning, and analyzing execution plans, is also essential. Past experience building complex software systems that have successfully been delivered to customers is a must.

We estimate the salary for this position to be around $150,000 per year, based on industry standards and the level of experience required.
