Job Summary

The Pediatric Hospitalist is a key member of our inter-disciplinary team, responsible for delivering high-quality patient care to children from birth through adolescence. As a Pediatric Hospitalist, you will work collaboratively with Primary Care Providers to ensure safe patient handoffs and provide consultative services in the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, evaluate, diagnose, and treat well newborns and pediatric observation patients and inpatients on the pediatric inpatient unit.
  • Work collaboratively with Primary Care Providers to ensure safe patient handoffs.
  • Perform and/or order clinically appropriate procedures for each patient.
  • Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations, and perform physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care, and documenting in conformity with applicable professional standards, third-party payer requirements, and the Division's policies and procedures.
  • Prescribe clinically appropriate medication and treatment for each patient.
  • Refer each patient to other physicians, including specialists and other healthcare providers, whenever the patient's condition requires it.
  • Keep and maintain accurate, complete, appropriate, timely, and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.
  • Use and promote evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Review on a regular basis long-term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
  • Consult with Medical Director and other medical professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
  • Participate in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital.
  • Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
  • Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
  • Participate in peer review, development, and consultation.
  • Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
  • Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.
  • Participate in 24-hour Pediatric Hospitalist Call Coverage.
  • Provide appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the resolution of complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients.
Qualifications
  • Education Required: MD, DO degree.
  • Experience Required: Experience in a Pediatric Hospitalist setting preferred.
  • License and/or Certification Required: Board eligible or certified in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut and New York, Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate, PALS, NRP certifications required, ACLS, BLS preferred.
