Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician to lead our Rehabilitation team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for advancing patient care, research, and teaching missions through direct patient care, clinical research, and training of residents and medical students.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:
- Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and other learners in the clinical environment.
- Participate in the orientation of new staff and students to the Rehabilitation program.
- Develop and implement the core curriculum, including reading materials for residents and students.
- Evaluate the performance of residents and students assigned to the facilities after each rotation.

Clinical:
- Provide primary clinical care to patients on the inpatient rehabilitation unit, including those with stroke, amputations, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and general impairment.
- Ensure the proper management and quality of service in the provision of care at the facilities.
- Serve as an ex-officio member of committees in the facility, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
- Enforce hospital medical staff bylaws and regulations, and follow faculty medical staff bylaws.
- Collaborate with the facility administrator to purchase supplies and equipment, and formulate special regulations and policies applicable to patient care.
- Provide in-service training as required.
- Report directly to the Vice Chairman for Clinical Practice and meet the needs of the department as defined by the Vice Chair and Department Chairman.
- Review medical records to ensure appropriate patient care and compliance with governing agency regulations.
- Be available to contact the responsible attending physician regarding matters of concern related to patient care.
- Meet with facility physicians, management staff, and departmental chairmen to facilitate daily interdepartmental working relationships as requested by the department chair.
- Assist billing professionals in preparing appropriate charges for medical services rendered, and review non-reimbursed billings.
- Attend required training and maintain practice credentials and completion of education as required by hospital, university, and state practice organization.

Requirements:

- MD or DO degree or equivalent, and board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
- Effective oral and written communication and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Teaching experience at the resident and medical student level.
- 5 years of experience in inpatient rehabilitation, managing specialized patient populations such as stroke, SCI/complex care, neurodegenerative, and ortho/trauma/surgical.
