Respiratory Therapist Specialist

This position performs critical respiratory care duties in accordance with physician orders and departmental policies. The ideal candidate will work independently in intensive care units and critical care settings, consulting with physicians and other personnel to make recommendations on treatment as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with physician orders, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
- Assist with training of students, new team members, and other team members.
- Analyze and report blood gas results accurately.
- Initiate and manage all types of airways and associated equipment.
- Accurately document and charge for respiratory care procedures and tasks, providing patient and family education as needed.
- Effectively communicate with healthcare team members, providing accurate and complete reports and making recommendations as appropriate.
- Initiate, monitor, and manage patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Adhere to infection control and quality initiatives, performing cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of equipment as indicated.
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent.
- Graduate of a school for Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or a successor accrediting authority.
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina.
- BLS certification and NBRC credentials must be maintained.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.
- NRP and PALS certification required for working in the Children's Hospital.
